Presented by Mrs Blackwell’s Village Bookshop
As part of the Greytown International Cocktail Festival
Join us for an afternoon of quiet indulgence at the spectacular Wharekauhau Country Estate, perched on the wild Wairarapa coast.
Your experience begins with a perfectly chilled Lighthouse Gin gimlet on arrival. The gimlet is said to have originated with the British Navy as a tonic to ward off scurvy, so we’re serving this classic cocktail as a nod to our venue’s location, perched on Wharekauhau’s dramatic coast.
With gimlet in hand, you can explore the lodge and grounds, soaking in the views as a sense of calm washes over you. At 11:30am we’ll gather in the main lounge lounge for a blissful hour of silent reading: bring your own book and enjoy the rare pleasure of uninterrupted reading in a truly exceptional setting.
After our reading hour, a gentle bell will signal a move to the dining room for an elegant afternoon tea.
This is a rare opportunity to experience Wharekauhau Country Estate as a day guest, and to combine your love of literature & luxury in one unforgettable afternoon!
Your ticket includes:
A silent reading hour at one of New Zealand’s most exceptional properties
A gimlet upon arrival (non alcoholic options available)
An afternoon tea of sweet and savoury items, prepared by Wharakauhau’s award-winning culinary team
Coffee and tea
Dietary requirements: please inform us when you buy your ticket if you have any dietary requirements. The team at Wharekauhau can accommodate most requests.
Additional alcoholic beverages: these can be purchased on the day.
Dress code: there is no strict dress code for this event, but consider yourself licensed to wear that special outfit that doesn’t get out of the closet nearly often enough!
