Held at the Martinborough Golf Course – head to the newly renovated clubrooms for a bite to eat before this event!
Step into the beauty of the night with this unique new offering for the Wairarapa Walking Festival. Hosted on the manicured grounds of a local golf course, this gentle evening stroll allows you to experience the magic of darkness without worrying about uneven paddocks or rough terrain.
As we walk together, the transition from dusk to dark will naturally unfold, helping us acclimatise to the night. For those new to walking in the dark, handy red-light torches will be provided to keep you comfortable. This is less about distance and more about slowing down, stepping slightly outside of your comfort zone, and embracing the calm of night.
Along the way, we’ll reflect on the value of darkness – its role in history, its impact on wellbeing, and its importance for the environment. We’ll then pause to share hot chocolate and, if the skies are clear, look up in awe at a canopy of stars. With star charts in hand, we’ll explore what the November night skies have to offer and why protecting them matters.
The evening concludes with simple, practical ways we can all help preserve our night skies – because our environment doesn’t end at the treetops, it stretches all the way to the stars.
